Riverside Model 1621
Huge Ruby Jewels
Blind Man Monty Mkd Dial
Historic Waltham from 1937
| || Folks, it was 1937. We were on the verge of war, Amelia Earhart was lost at sea, and Waltham was trying to compete with Hamilton for the Railroad Watch market. |
This watch was a new idea, a Model 1621 21 Jewel Riverside model with huge ruby jewels that were pressed in rather than set in jewel settings like always, and had excellent timekeeping ability. Waltham took it a step further tho with their Waltham Railway Special Model Dial (This was the same model they put that dial on) Hamilton promptly made them take that dial off market due to copyright infringement which they did.
They did get away with making marked 21 Jewel Blindman Montgomery Dials like this however, trying to compete with the Hamilton Illinois 21 Jewel 60 Hour and 161 Models with a 21 60 marked dial that were all the rage. Notice how closely this Blindman Monty Dial resembles a Hamilton Model!
Circa 1937, this unique watch features that new movement, the porcelain dial noted above, and a nice Keystone RGP 1930s case which may be original to the watch. it is running and timing well and as you can see looks great with that dial. I also fitted a new glass crystal as well.
If you want an historic Waltham Railroad Watch...one you can use everyday and be proud to own...this is it. Beautiful 1621/1912 21 Jewel Waltham Riverside Railroad!......$265.00
